Dr. Narendranath’s primary area of interest is medical genetics. He has completed his masters in biotechnology from Amrita school of biotechnology, Kerala. He did his post graduate thesis from Institute of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, Pune on the project “Cloning and expression of haloalkane dehalogenase in yeast Yarrowia lipolytica” He has qualified CSIR-JRF in the year 2010 and joined Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Kerala for a PhD to study Phakomatoses disorders in the Indian population. In his PhD thesis entitled “Genotype-phenotype correlation of von Hippel Lindau (VHL) syndrome and molecular mechanism of VHL associated Hemangioblastoma manifestation”, he studied the genetic variations associated with VHL disease in the Indian population. As part of this work he also has studied the molecular mechanisms associated with Hemangioblastoma (HB) manifestation in VHL disease. He has experience working in an ICMR funded, population based study on Neurofibromatosis (NF1) disease. In this work he did the genetic screening of patients affected with NF1 and has documented the phenotypes in detail and has identified a few novel mutations in NF1 disease in India. He has also worked at Molecular Oncology division, AIMS, Kerala from 2016 to 2018. There he was part of a team developing custom genetic tests needed for the diagnosis and management of various cancers.
